What We Do

Empress of Virtue is revolutionizing the way we think about when, how, and why we wear denim. We tend to equate denim with jeans pants and a casual look. Additionally, our association to denim is not one of delicacy but rather heavy duty and almost industrial.

Now, Empress of Virtue through our Denim Revolution brand, is breaking the stereotypical associations to denim. Welcome to the Denim Revolution in which denim pants are being transformed in stunning, delicate, chic, and elegant Denim Necklaces, Denim Earrings, Denim Bracelets, with visions for much more.

Empress of Virtue’s Denim Revolution is also taking sustainability to the next level. Our Denim Revolution relies on denim jeans gathered from family, friends, as well as rummage sales. We also employ sustainable practices with the use of water and detergent. We only wash our denim when there is a full load and we use a fragrance free eco friendly detergent on all our denim before we begin creating our masterpieces. The freshly washed denim are then made into fashion forward one of a kind denim necklaces, denim earrings, denim bracelet, and coming soon … (you will have to wait and see).

About 90% of our chains, gems, pearls, crystals, and jewelry findings are also sustainably sourced.  Plus, there is a push to raise the bar from 90% to 100%. Currently, we are in the process of developing a whole new denim creation for 2020. Because our facilities cannot handle the level of production for our 2020 debut, we are searching for an American manufacturer who also employs sustainable practices.

Since Empress of Virtue practices a sustainable business model, our commitment as we plan to expand beyond denim jewelry and push the boundaries of what denim can do, is to find a manufacturer who also employs sustainable practices and who is willing to produce our designs from either sustainable sourced denim or only up cycled denim.

Our Brand Story

I fell in love with Denim unexpectedly, in part, because it shocked me when I discovered that this heavy duty almost industrial material could be soft and elegant. I made my first pair of denim earrings in September of 2017 which quickly turned into several pairs of denim earrings in the span of a few days. Before I knew it, I was making denim necklaces and bracelets from shabby chic to formal elegance, all out of up cycled denim and jewelry findings. The icing on this fabulous denim cake was when I discovered that I fell in love with a medium that represented more than it’s metamorphic capabilities.

In 2018, I participated in the the U.S. National Committee for UN Women, Metro New York Chapter’s event, Denim After Dark, a denim-themed event to encourage the stand in solidarity with sexual assault survivors and honor Denim Days. Having triumphed over sexual assault myself, Denim After Dark and Denim Days will always be apart of Empress of Virtue’s Denim Revolution identity. Since then, I have reached out to the Metro New York United Nations Women with my commitment to donate some of my denim revolution necklaces and earrings in show of my solidarity and to help raise awareness.

Transforming a medium that was once rough and industrial, for me, is like my own transformation from a rough and broken place into something, someone with victory in her every step, and elegance and pose. For this reason, I am determined to push the boundaries of the possibilities of denim beyond denim earrings, denim necklaces, and denim bracelets, as a symbol that anyone can triumph and can become more than their beginning point and experiences.

After 6 years as a Christian Entrepreneur and Christian Business owner, I have come to lean on three facts which I believe should be fundamental to all Christian entrepreneurs and Christian business owners. These three facts are Christ First Above All, Christ’s Timing, and Christ Definition of Success. All are based first, on the word of God and second on my experience.

Christ First Above All.

When I was starting out I felt led by the Lord to start Empress of Virtue. So I cannot take credit for Empress of Virtue’s inception. Yet, I was afraid to make Christ the head, and make it known that Empress of Virtue is not my own but the Lord’s. I would write devotionals or put inspiring words up on my various social media platforms, but I would do my best to not make it sound overly Christian. Not only did I suffer because of the internal struggle and the fact that I preach that Christ should permeate every aspect of our lives, my business also struggled. My business struggled because it was not embracing its identity and if it cannot embrace its identity, it cannot embrace its purpose. I was convicted by the Holy Spirit to remember a. from whom was I gifted for this task; b. who is credited for supplying the needs of this business; and c. Do I really trust in the Lord or am I trusting in myself? The moment I surrendered to Christ’s will was the moment Empress of Virtue began to walk in it’s ordained steps which led to finding our niche, grow in our business, and develop a clear vision and plan for the future. I was no longer conflicted therefore the direction in which Christ was leading was no longer blocked.

Christ’s Timing.

In business, we sometimes expect overnight success. The reality is that success doesn’t happen overnight. If God calls us to a particular business or ministry or both, what makes us think that He is incapable of bringing about success in the right time? Whatever Christ calls us to, He will prepare us for. He took 40 years to train Moses in the wilderness, the same wilderness Moses later had to guide the children of Israel through. Abraham and Sarah were promised a son. Christ took well over 20 years to bless them with a Son at the right time. Wait on the Lord for His timing is perfect.

Christ’s Definition Of Success.

Remember that Christ’s definition of success is radically different from the world’s definition of success. Satan thought He defeated Jesus on the cross, so also did the Pharisees and the other religious leaders at the time. Little did they know, the cross was part of His plan in order that all might be saved, even the ones who crucified Him. His plan and the success of His plan was revealed on the day of His resurrection. He conquered life and death. Sometimes in business and ministry, it may seem as if things are not working:  we are not making a profit; we are not where we want to be. The thing to remember is that Christ is in charge and as long as you are following His plan, you are right where you need to be. Christ’s success through you will be revealed at the perfect time. 1Corinthians 1:27 “But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.”

“Who can find a virtuous wife?
For her worth is far above rubies.

The heart of her husband safely trusts her;
So he will have no lack of gain.
She does him good and not evil
All the days of her life.

She seeks wool and flax,
And willingly works with her hands.
She is like the merchant ships,
She brings her food from afar.
She also rises while it is yet night,
And provides food for her household,
And a portion for her maidservants.

 She considers a field and buys it;
From her profits she plants a vineyard.

She girds herself with strength,
And strengthens her arms.

 She perceives that her merchandise is good,
And her lamp does not go out by night.
She stretches out her hands to the distaff,
And her hand holds the spindle.
She extends her hand to the poor,
Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.

 She is not afraid of snow for her household,
For all her household is clothed with scarlet.
 She makes tapestry for herself;
Her clothing is fine linen and purple.
 Her husband is known in the gates,
When he sits among the elders of the land.

She makes linen garments and sells them,
And supplies sashes for the merchants.
Strength and honor are her clothing;
She shall rejoice in time to come.

 She opens her mouth with wisdom,
And on her tongue is the law of kindness.

She watches over the ways of her household,
And does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children rise up and call her blessed;
Her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many daughters have done well,
But you excel them all.”

 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing,
But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.

Give her of the fruit of her hands,
And let her own works praise her in the gates.”
